I am a nurse but do to my Multiple Sclerosis I am unable to work at this time. I have been on Methadone for 3 years prescribed by my chronic pain doctor. I am going to have a Medtronic Pain Pump inserted into my spine in 4 weeks. I need the methadone until then. I am sure my doctor will write a scrip for whatever I need, but i have no insrance, only medicaid and they only pay for 3 scripts a month. It just is not working and really life is not worth living. I can't even put on my own underwear myself or take a shower.

As this is a prescription type medication, you need to see a doctor for an exam and testing, to determine if this medication is right for you. There is no way for a doctor to prescribe medications without seeing you in person for an exam and testing. A doctor needs to examine you and determine if this medication is right for your particular situation, and he/she also needs to discuss any potential side effects. No doctor will prescribe medication without seeing your first, as it is illegal and unethical for them to do so. There are companies that do sell prescription medications but this is quite dangerous as not only will you most likely not get what you ordered, but it would be confiscated by customs and you may be fined.

Don't know whether you're in the US or UK. But in the US, you can get methadone prescribed for chronic pain, (John B. the "doctor" should know this, as pointed out by deltaqueen)however, you will most likely have to see a Pain Management Specialist and have a legitimate need for them. There are also some clinics that will prescribe methadone for opiate addiction maintenance. On the internet? I doubt it.

I've been using opiates - Mainly but not limited to Vicoden, Lora-tabs, Loracets, and Hydrocodones at about 80-120mg a day for about the past 6-8 months. I would often substitute Ocy's, Percs, or Opanas in order to fill that void when I couldn't get my hands on the hydro's. I kicked the addiction once before years ago when it was much stronger at about 200-500 mg of Oxycontin daily. I was struggling so badly this last time though and I'm not sure why. The cravings where more than I could bear and the withdrawals where to the point where I couldn't even work. I'm loosing all my friends and not doing the things I used to love before. I am currently on day 5 of sobriety and am starting to feel like a normal person again. The only main concern is that I purchased 3 10mg methadone's off the street and took them @ 20mgs - 2x10 on day four and 1 10mg methadone on day five. I must say that I honestly feel like a new person and fully have no desire to relapse or purchase more methadone for the purpose of easing withdrawals or cravings. I'm pretty sure I fought through the worst of it. Regardless for me there is no going back. Id rather be sick for another week than depend on a pill to keep me going. After all, I know they will be the death of me and the end of everything I love if I continue the path that I was on. I was wondering if anyone can tell me if the opiate withdrawals from the hydro's are gone now that I am done with the methadone or should I still look forwards to another week of sickness without the methadone. Any moral support would help. I am sure I am going to get a lecture about illegally using 3 methadone to aid me in kicking my habit but that's by no means what I am looking for. I am wondering if my opiate withdrawals will return now that my short (but honestly - extremely helpful) methadone supply is gone. II have absolutely no intention of returning to either one of these HORRIBLE drugs. I just would really like to know where I stand. And any moral support or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Please no lectures as depression is already an ongoing issue. Thanks in advance for any answers or support. There is no turning back for me - its either now or never.

Hey man, good for you for recognizing how your addiction affected not only others, but your own life. Identifying that the drug changed your own life is the hardest thing to do from your own perspective.
I am not a medical person, but If you've already felt like you were coming down from the withdrawal sickness (it was weaker than the day before when you took the methadone) then the methadone will unlikely cause your sickness to come back in spades. You will undoubtedly feel sicker than if you didn't take them, but I don't think anyone can judge you for wanting to get rid of the pain withdrawal can cause.

All I can say is, the sickness will only last for a short time compared to the rest of your life, and if getting off opiates is your MAIN CONCERN, then living through the day to day pain for only a little longer is worth it while it might not seem like it at any given moment. STICK IN THERE!

Get a dry erase board or a sign and write "Never Again" on it, or something to that effect, and have it somewhere that will constantly remind you to never start again. It might sound stupid, but having that sign as a symbol of your strength will help you stay off them forever, even though you might think "there's no way." There's always a chance that you'll start again, and you need that constant reminder of how horrible the drug is and how it affects you/those around you to keep you from never starting again.
