Methadone Drug Addiction .com

Someone I love is using methadone to overcome oxycotin addiction. She's been on the program for 7 months and has not slipped. Her side effects are awful. Sweating, nausea, dizziness and fatigue. This seems like coming off of drugs instead of helping her to overcome the initial addiction. Anybody out there that can recommend anything? Thankx for your time and consideration Folks>I so appreciate it.

I went through the same thing after a bad accident. What worked for me was vitamins namely C,E,B complex and a liquid colloidal complex. The withdraw will slowly get better, what your loved one needs most is understanding and support from the ones she loves. exersize and a support group like N.A. is a big help also. i have been daten a guy for a few years who is now n has been on methadone for a few months, i have noticed a major decrease in his sex drive n sexual performance, i am woundering if this is normal, as i know not alot abount methadone w/ looking it up on the comp. thanks 4 ne help

From my own experince, it had a major effect on the sex. While it was an excellent high, I could never seem to achieve an orgasm. Sometimes there was lack of desire too. And I have a very high sex drive to begain with.
Solution to the problem was I had to come off the methadone. Truly I miss the fantastic high, but I would never want to trade anything for sex!!!

I have been talking to an old friend on line, and years ago he got involved in heroin,,,,,,anyway, he says he has been off it for a few years now, and has been on methadone for about 2 and a half years now. I don't know anything about methadone, and wondered if anyone can share their experiences with me? Does it take this long to get clean? any appropriate advice welcome....thanks in advance

Methadone is a synthetic opioid, originally manufactured during WWII by the Germans when the supply lines for medical supplies were cut off. The shortage of pain medications stimulated research and the development of Dolophine (named after, guess who?). It eventually became known as methadone. Vince Dole and Marie Nyswander of Rockefeller University started the first methadone clinic in NYC and successfully treated heroin addicts. It worked for several reasons: First, it stimulate similar receptors to those stimulated by heroin (there are several opiate receptors in the brain); Second, in doing so, it decreased the craving for heroin (a strong part of the drug seeking behavior of heroin addicts); Three, it prevented withdrawal from heroin (another reason addicts continue to use); Four, it has much less of a high than heroin; Five, you become tolerant to the mild effects after a few weeks -- so much so that it is safe to drive while in methadone treatment; Six, since it is administered in a clinic, addicts are not going to drug dealers, shooting with dirty syringes and secondary problems (hepatitis, HIV AIDS, etc.) are greatly reduced.

However, Methadone is addicting and withdrawal is uncomfortable to say the least. However, when used in a controlled environment (clinic), taken orally, and under supervision, it is a much better alternative addiction than heroin. Eventually (sometimes after many years), the addict can be weaned off methadone.

Sorry folks it's me again :)
Does 2 & half years of methadone use affect the sperm? and how? and fertility? more precisely....would our baby be healthy?
We are also planning a holiday, he is on 70 ml methadone a day, would he be allowed to take it abroad? perhaps need a doctors note?
Sorry to ask, but I know nothing...this is a fairly new relationship, although we have known each other for 15 years......

you can take 500mgs of methadone abroad as long as it is prescribed.
methadone alone should not affect the sperm count, though it can effect ejaculation. baby will be healthy, if it is just dad. if mum takes it as well baby may need help with withdrawals, but will be fine.
if it is a new relationship take your time with getting pregnant.

MAN, that's alot of methodone.............first of all, don't try to do it own your own. Your dr. can ween you off of it by taking smaller does every day. I have very severe chronic pain and they put me on Methodone, 10mg three times a day and i could not take it cause it made me feel like i couldn't breathe and that scared the daylights out of me so i just switched back to my Lortab 10mg. I can see where a person (like Anna Nicole's son) could die in their sleep from taking Methodone....please be careful and good luck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
