Methadone treatment?

I have a friend that has been in treatment for a little over a month now. She has not mad it to her full dose yet but has not upped her dose in almost two weeks. She has been getting really tired, hot & cold flashes and not feeling well. Last night her heart and pulse were going really fast. At first I was thinking that she was feeling ill from coming down and not being on the correct dose of Meth yet. But last she told me that she was feeling sick and a few days ago she took some Oxycodone. She is really tired and week, her heart and pulse seem to be normal. Is this related to coming down from pills? Not having enough Meth in her system for the whole day? Mixing the two medications? Any advise would be helpful. She does not want to go see a doctor and I am hoping that if I come up with enough information that maybe she will.

I'm a little confused-- she can't be in methadone treatment without seeing a doctor. (He's gotta prescribe it.) Anyways, all of the symptoms that you mentioned are withdrawal symptoms. Her methadone dose is not yet stable. Her dose should last her an entire 24 hrs (that's one of methadone's beauties). If she's continuing to suffer withdrawal symptoms, then she needs to talk to her doctor about adjusting her dose. I'm giving you this information for you only. If she's addicted to opiates, then she already knows this information (because she's gone through it). She just isn't wanting to address it. Unfortunately, it doesn't matter how much info you give her, or try to force her to see a doctor or other professional, she's not going to get help until she has hit complete rock bottom (her definition of rock bottom). My advice to YOU (because you're the only person you can truly help) is to look into attending Al-Anon meetings. It's a 12 step program (a lot like AA and NA) that is specifically for people who have loved ones/ friends/ family members who suffer from addictions or alcoholism. I'm suggested it because often times, when people that we care about are struggling with addictions, when can get 'sucked into' all of the drama and chaos of their lives. The result is a lot of stress on ourselves because because we worry and care so much about the other person. Al-Anon can give you the support of other people who are in your same situation. (not to mention it's free)

HBO Documentary Discusses why Methadone treatment works!

Does Methadone Treatment cause you to have a longer time between periods as a women?

You see I started Methadone Treatment, and I have taken it everyday since 6/18/07. About two and a half months of no period, I'm just wondering if there's a connection between the two. I am not pregnant, already checked, and I have never ever used any kind Birth Control(Pills,Patches,Shots,Nothing)!!! I know I should, but I don't even use Condoms or Diaframs!!! Anyway, if you have any helpful Info. I would really appreciate it!

I have looked up Methadone's side effects, nothing was mentioned as to periods:

Therefore I think you should either consult a gynecologist or the doctor who prescribed you to the Methadone.

What do you think about, and know about, METHADONE treatment?

I'm writing a paper about methadone treatment (for addiction, nor for pain), whether or not it works well and what society thinks about it.

I would be very grateful if you could help me by telling me what you know about methadone treatment, where you have learned what you know, and what you think about the treatment, or whatever other comments you may have about the topic. I'm looking for as many comments as possible from "the general public".

Please keep the comments/opinions coming.

Thank you!

Methadone detox is a three phase process designed to rid the methadone addict from the grip of methadone addiction. The most effective methadone treatment combines a safe atmosphere, knowledgeable staff, skilled physicians, effective medications and proper nutrition. The greatest fear methadone addicts have is the fear of methadone withdrawal symptoms. This fear can keep a person in their methadone addiction for years and years. The key to a successful methadone detox is to relieve the addict from the perceived threat of pain, nausea and insomnia. At Orange County Detox we go to great lengths assuage that fear. The fact is, Orange County Detox has developed a methadone treatment program that practically eliminates pain from the methadone detox process. The main concepts employed within our methadone detox process are “efficacy” and “compassion.” Orange County Detox believes in a humane methadone detox for anyone suffering from methadone addiction. The fact is within 24 hours after admission most clients are amazed that they feel so well. We use a specialized methadone detox program just for methadone addicts unlike the protocol methadone detox programs of many other detox centers. We are opponents of the methadone maintenance programs that are found throughout the United States. Even Suboxone maintenance is a dangerous option. Orange County Detox is a suboxone detox center and a believer in total abstinence after opiate detox is complete. Orange County Detox (suboxone detox California) recommends that a methadone addict can never safely use any opiate again. We recommend full disclosure to any and all physicians including dentists for the rest of their life.

What will boost libido while in the methadone treatment program?

it has been months, and i understand that methadone depleates all desire for sex but it has been about 8 months I'm starting to go crazy , what can my boyfriend take to help want sex during his treatment program.

I never knew that methadone did that. I wish I could give some to my husband lol. I have a very low sex drive from effexor. there is a pill called cobra that helps with labido he could try that??

Are there any safe medications or herbal remedies to take to increase sex drive while on methadone treatment?

My boyfriend has been taking methadone and his sex drive has decreased tremendously. Is there anything that he can take to increase his drive without affecting his treatment program?

Maybe. First, I'm assuming he's on maintenance therapy, not chronic pain treatment. Let me know if I am wrong, and my apologies if I am, but it doesn't change the following advice.

The problem is that he's being treated for an addictive disorder - therefore, most doctors will be reluctant to prescribe him anything. He could try certain anti-depressants, but most of those actually decrease sex drive in most people. He would have to speak to a doctor about this, in order to factor in any health issues he may be having. I was going to recommend Yohimbine, but it is not safe to use with methadone, due to cardiac and blood pressure issues. Viagra is an option, but it only helps get an erection, it doesn't increase actual sex-drive.

Has he considered Suboxone or Subutex treatment? He would have fewer side effects and he could take home a month supply at a time, avoiding the horrible hassle of the clinic. It's not cheap, office visits are usually $100 for 120 tablets, and each tablet is $5. Still, he can get by easily on 4mg, half a tablet each day. We fill scripts for some people every two weeks at a cost of $60. They make one script last 2-3 months.

Good luck, and it's very good of you to support him through this. Opiod addiction can be horrible, addicts need good friends.

    Methadone detox Treatment

Methadone is an extremely powerful synthetic opiate. Methadone treatment is often times used for help with the withdrawal symptoms that are associated with cocaine, heroine, and other substance addictions. If you go for treatment for methadone addiction with one of these drugs and methadone treatment is what is decided to be the best way for you to get clean, you may be required to go to a facility or doctor and get a daily dosage of methadone. What this means is you will go to a methadone clinic every day and you will be dosed by a nurse.

This is time consuming and is really a pain in the butt but it does work and heroin addicts do use to for heroin detox. I have tried this method and it is very addicting and may be harder to get off than heroin because it legal and easy to get. I would advise against getting on methadone maintenance unless nothing else works for you.

The dosage of methadone that is given is dependent upon what kind of drugs you have been on and also for what duration of time. The reason that they will not just give you a prescription for this medication is because it too is also a very addictive drug. If it is not taken properly there can easily be a dependency that develops just as with other drugs.
