Is It okay to dissolve my methadone tablets in liquid to take them?

I heard you absorb more of the methadone if you dissolve it in tea or other liquid

Most methadone clinics dissolve the tablets in water before handing it out to their patients. Then give the patient another cup of water or Kool aid to help wash it down. If you dissolve it in another heavier liquid, such as milk, it can slow the affects down but will not harm the overall treatment. So, no matter what liquid you use, the methadone will be absorbed. Milk and some others just line the stomach and therefore could affect how quickly it is absorbed.

I took 10mg Methadone tablets 3 times a day for 2 weeks for chronic pain. How long til it's out of my system?

This is not to pass a drug test and it has been 10 days since I've taken it but I have a feeling it's still in my system.
Could a liquid detox help to get it out of my system?

methadone has a very long half-life. It will take several weeks before it and its metabolites are out of your system completely.

can anyone tell me a site that shows a picture of methadone tablets. My doctor is going to put me on them.?

I want to know what it looks like and how big it is. I have a terrible time getting pills to go down!

Methadone 5mgs tablets?

Good afternoon all,
My name is Michael. I was recently prescribed Methadone 5mg tablets for chronic back and muscle pain. I take the tablets twice a day, and I just like to know how long the dose lasts for. For example if I take the first dose of Methadone 5mgs at 9 A.M., when should I taken the second? My doctor said it was long lasting, but she didn't say how long lasting. Thanks for your help!

If the doctor has specified the interval between tablets, then follow that. If not, and the doctor has only said twice a day, then divide them equally during waking hours if the pain doesn't bother you while sleeping, or equally during 24 hours if it does.

For example, if the pain is only a problem while you're awake, and you're usually up for 16 out of 24 hours, then you would take the two doses eight hours apart, probably when you get up and then eight hours later (e.g., 9 AM and 5 PM). If the pain is a problem even during sleep, just take the tablets every 12 hours.

If you continue to experience pain between doses, make a note of how long it takes for the pain to come back and tell your doctor about it, and she can adjust the dose as necessary, or change medications. Conversely, if the pain doesn't come back even many hours after the first dose, you may not even need the second; you should tell your doctor about this as well.

Unlike many other medications, pain medication is not necessary to maintain your health, so if you skip a dose because you're not in pain, there's generally no harm in doing so.

Do I have to dissolve my 40MG Tablets of Methadone? Why am I not supposed to chew and/or swallow them?

I have been on methadone maintenance for about 3 years now & I just gained something called Step 30 which means that I don't have to go in to the clinic every day anymore. Instead, I come in once a month to pick up a months worth of pills. When I went in to the clinic I was getting liquid methadone, but now I have the Methadose 40mg Methadone Hydrochloride Tablets For Oral Suspension USP. On a different label they are also called Methadone HCL 40mg Diskettes. I'm told that I am not supposed to chew and/or swallow them before I dissolve them in water. Unfortunetly, they taste horrible and even mixing them in OJ is nasty. My question is, why can't I break them up & swallow them, & if I did what would be the worst thing that could happen? If I do absolutely have to dissolve them first, do you have any advice on a less painful way to administer them? Thanks!

I have had the liquid methadone & the wafers. I also had trouble drinking the dissolved solution. I experimented taking them in different ways & found that if you break them up into 1/4 pieces or 1/8 pieces & swallow them that you won't notice a difference between that & dissolving them.

When most people think of back problems they think of "slipped disks" or muscle pain. That's not what has caused my stepbrother Mark's troubles. His official diagnosis is degenerative disk disease. That means exactly what it sounds like—the disks between his vertebrae that are supposed to protect the nerves and bones are slowly deteriorating. The MRI of the area makes it look like he has a broken back: it's full of jagged discontinuities; the bones in his back are pushing straight into his nerves.

This is what has led to his disability. He has trouble walking, sitting, sleeping, doing almost any activity for any length of time—not to mention living with excruciating pain. In addition, he has arthritis in his feet that has become increasingly burdensome and painful in its own right. As I mentioned in my last column , he's finally receiving some disability payments from the government, but they are barely enough to survive on. Still, the Social Security Administration requires regular visits to a doctor to confirm that the disabling condition persists. A recurring feature of Mark's doctor visits is a urine test. There's nothing about the treatment of his back problems or arthritis that actually requires a urine sample; the test is for drugs. No, Mark's not some kind of recovering drug addict. His doctor is obligated by the government to make sure he's taking his pain medication and not selling it for profit.
