If your doctor has decided to keep you on methadone maintenance pregnant, can your baby be taken away?

I dont need any shit about this, I just need the facts. I dont care what your personal feelings are about a pregnant woman being on methadone, I have a chronic illness, and this is what was decided by my health care provider that would be best in the long run for me and the baby. I'm just scared that CPS could take my child away even though its being prescribed.

People are on medicine all the time while pregnant, depression meds, anxiety meds, blood pressure meds..etc etc
If your doctor ( your obgyn ) says it's okay then it's okay, no cps would not take your child for taking a prescribed drug from a doctor that is well aware that your pregnant.

Campaign on Using Methadone Safely

FDA and the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) have launched a campaign to increase awareness about the risks ...

I have little income while needing to be prescribed methadone to better my life. I have attached my letter!?

To Whom It May Concern;
My name is Jewel, a 34 year old male with a mental and physical dependency to narcotic pain medications. This all started in the summer of 2006 when I had suffered a work related back injury. My most severe pain only lasted about six months. With the right doctor, an increasing potency, increased doses of opiate medications, and my around the clock desire for pain relief had developed a new dependency to opiates.
Who ever should read this letter, I would like you to know that my choices which feed the addiction have been altered by a conscious mind which only I have control of. On the other hand a chemical free, non-toxic, sober mind would have never made some of those choices I have in the last three years. Even if you have or had in the past, lead an addictive lifestyle such as that similar to my own, it would still differ in some ways do to your environment, your sources, or your own unique situation. There is one thing myself and others with addiction have in common, that is the feeling of emptiness we have inside when our drugs are separated from us. After awhile this feeling of emptiness leaves us with a since of loneliness as if our problem is singled out from the rest of the world. Finally our emotions become altered by leading us to believe we can’t function therefore making a sober conscience something we fear the most. We become trapped in our own world of excuses like; “I can’t quit now!”, “I am not ready!”,”I can take less and less till I quit for good!”, “It won’t kill me to get more cause as long as I feel better, there will be motivation to get things done!” Or we find other reasons to seek relief which would reflect a selfish action to our environment. We do this by pushing our morals and beliefs aside just to cure the moment. As time progresses these behavior patterns leave us looking back at our past with shame and guilt. Instead of blaming our addiction, we blame ourselves while in denial of our illness caused by drugs. Our denial manipulates every excuse we give others while supporting our drug of choice. These behavior patterns are very controlling in such a way that they interrupt our true lifestyle. I have done some horrible un-humane things to get my drug(s) of choice, things like; switching from one doctor to the next, changing from one pharmacy to another, making my back pain look worse then it really is so those around me might offer relief, changing my stories around to manipulate someone to believe everything I might say, or other desperate actions in effort to get relief. I have managed to keep things legal thus this far however if these problems continue, my behaviors might lead to criminal activity. I really hope and pray that never happens! I hate my life right now and if it wasn’t for my loving wife and children, I would most likely be dead or in an institution by now.
Before the addiction, my life was productive, drug free, and I was always the upbeat and cheerful type of guy. Now it seems as if all those encouraging memories have been stored in the back of the mind I am so afraid these old memories will loose there light while becoming clouded by every moment I chose to use drugs. I also regret the times my addiction hurt others for my own benefit. I know from experience that these are learned behaviors that will soon affect my very since of well-being. Once that sober lifestyle has been forgotten, my memories from my life before the addiction will become peculiar to me. I guess that would mean a place that I once called home would become something unusually strange and unfamiliar to me.
To this day I desperately have the need for a cure but can’t afford a doctor who might prescribe certain opiate maintenance medications. There are two specific schedule II medications that have actually made my life more productive without the horrible side affects, these medications were used only for a short while because I could not afford or even find a provider of the medication. The two medications were “Subtoxon 8mg, 1 per day” and the other was “Methadone 10mg, 3 times per day”, both were given to me by close friends and family for not only recovery but also as a mild pain relief. The Subtoxon never really helped with pain but the methadone worked wonders for all my pain needs as well as my road to recovery. If these drugs should be prescribed they are only available on a daily dosage basis. I am not available for this method of treatment because of my limited resources, plus I have a daily obligation to a family of six that rely on my sole support. This would include my four young children!
Like others, I have a great fear of loosing control of my true inner self. This addiction has it’s barrier points however I have so far managed to limit my dependency to three major opiate type narcotics or so called barbiturates; Hydrocodone based and (or) Oxycodone based medications. I am an experienced Commercial Driver with over 12 years of my life spent

How do I find Elderly Financial Assistance?

Here is my story:

18 months ago my uncle moved in with my Grandma to "help" her. She had heart surgery last year and is waiting 1 year from it to get the knee and hip surgery. Her knee and hip hurt her when she walks around but not when she lays. My uncle has a problem with abusing prescription drugs. This is just one of my uncle's problems. He is not all bad but I fear mostly. Anyway, with him being her "provider", from what I hear, all they did was lay around and watch TV. He got my Gram prescribed oxycodone and methadone. My Gram is 72 and, in my eyes, there is NO reason for her to have these drugs. I was told by my uncle and Gram that she didn't take them much but even a little is not healthy for her.

About a month ago, my uncle moved, therefore Gram went to stay with (her daughter) my aunt. (Mind you I live in a different state but am currently staying with my Gram) My aunt, her husband, and a different uncle say she was going through withdrawals within 2 days of my uncle moving. About 2 weeks later she was so sick that they took her to the hospital. That's when they found the pneumonia. As far as I know, pneumonia was not why she went to the hospital. I got a phone call a few day after her being in the hospital saying they put a tube down her throat, I think because of oxygen. She was in the hospital for 2 weeks total. I found out later that the pneumonia must have been found late if they needed to use a tube on her. Now she is home and she is on medicare part D but, because of my selfish uncle, she is in the donut hole.

Also, I fear he got her hooked on opiates but she doesn't know or is in denial. Either way, she is not taking them now and hasn't been regularly for over a month. I don't know if my uncle has slipped her something in the last week without anyone knowing but it hasn't seemed like it. It helps that my cousin works in a pharmacy and has explained to Gram that certain drugs counteract/have dangerous effects with others. Finally, today after my cousin stopped by, I heard my Gram tell my uncle she wasn't going to take anything that wasn't on her discharge list.(The 2 in question are not) My family has decided that if my uncle is around they can't give my Gram any money because it will go to my uncle. He is 47 and needs to provide for himself and not use people. My Gram gets about $730 a month for SS and that's it.

I'm not quite sure what I'm asking you here but I need to help my Gram be able to live without him. I have a job in a different state waiting for me but down here, taking care of my Gram is my full time job. Thank God my Gram's sister is here too. My aunt is working on moving Gram in with her but my uncle has filled Gram's head with anger and negativity. My aunt says 2 months and she's make it work if Gram agrees, but until then, what do I do? Can you help me help my Gram help herself?

Sincerely,
Margaret

Your uncle appears to be guilty of elder abuse. Call your local Area Agency on Aging and request a case manager. They will help you to find ways to get help with the medication costs and also to find resources to care for your Gran.

California-based firm seeks to set up methadone clinic in Warren ...

WARREN, Maine — A California-based company has filed an application with the Maine Department of Health and Human Services to open a new methadone clinic in a former elementary school in Warren, according to Guy Cousins, director of the DHHS Office of Substance Abuse.

The license has not been approved yet, he said Thursday.

Cousins said that after national media picked up on news that Rockland’s Turning Tide methadone clinic was shut down in August he was contacted by five organizations considering coming to Maine to open a clinic. Two of the organizations later expressed interest in the Rockland area and one of them submitted an application for a license. The company, CRC Healthgroup , is one of the nation’s largest methadone providers, Cousins said Thursday.

“I know the organization has been diligent about having conversations in the community about it. I think they have had meetings with town officials and church officials. They have been up to visit multiple times,” Cousins said.
