I was in a bad car accident and have chronic back pain. My doctor prescribed me methadone and morphine along with a list of other pain pills. I took the methadone and morphine together for the first time the other day and had bad chest pains. Are these two not supposed to be taken with each other?
The methadone is long acting and should provide a baseline level of pain control. The morphine is probably for breakthrough pain - if you have episodes of pain that the methadone isn't handling.
If you aren't being seen by a physician who is a pain specialist, I recommend that you find one. Long term opiate use has some drawbacks, and you might benefit from some different medications, procedures or techniques to reduce your dependency on opiates.
Does anyone know a site where there is a conversion table for medicine? For my questions like: How much Morphine is equal to 10mg of Methadone? How much Morphine is equal to to 30mg of Methadone? Please help. ASAP Please/ Thank you so much!

I ask because my son is supposed to be using methadone and i want to know if he can cheat and get away with it.
Actually methadone is NOT an opiate and will not show up in a opiate test. so he cant cheat,if he test positive for opiates he has cheated
i take large amts of morphine for degenrative joint disease of the spine. I hate what it does to me, so my doctor has suggested methadone. I have read the pharmacology on it and im not sure id like it any better.

Four plaintiffs have filed a wrongful death and medical malpractice lawsuit against a Vancouver pain clinic, alleging it prescribed excessive amounts of drugs that caused multiple overdose deaths and addictions.
The estates of Deborah E. Reid, who died of opiate intoxication Jan. 8, 2008, and Karen Stransky, who died May 30, 2009 of an opiate overdose, are two of the plaintiffs suing the Vancouver Payette Clinic in Clark County Circuit Court.
Malvena Goetz and Tina Wright, two other plaintiffs, allege the clinic prescribed them "grossly excessive" amounts of controlled substances, causing each physical and mental injuries.
"Payette Clinic practitioners knew or had reason to know that the massive quantities of controlled substances they were prescribing were either being diverted by patients and sold in the illegal drug market, or being taken by their patients at great risk to the patient's own health," the suit says.
