My husband died about a month ago. He was recently in the hospital for a GI bleed and had a blood transfusion. He was addicted to pain medicine. They did not do an autopsy but his toxicology report states blood quants of methadone was .33 micrograms/ml and methadone metabolite .10 micrograms/ml. There is also propoxyphene .11 micrograms/ml. Cause of death is listed as overdose of methadone and secondary severe anemia due to GI bleed. Please help me figure this out. How much methadone do you think he took?

There are too many variables to give an accurate estimate of the amount of drugs he ingested. Weight, elapsed time and overall health are just a few of the variables.
The methadone level reported is within normal steady state levels of 0.065mcg/ml and 0.630mcg/ml. The propoxyphene is just slightly over the steady state level of 0.1mcg/ml. Since your husband was not opioid naive the GI bleed / anemia may have been the cause with the opioids contributing.
