How do methadone maintance clinics figure out the correct dose to give a patient? What if the dose is to low or high?

nodding, or unsteady. slowed or difficult
breathing; a slow heartbeat; mental confusion; or,
pinpoint pupils, In contrast, an unusual boost in
energy and ability to stay awake long hours also
may indicate overmedication. Report these symptoms immediately. Undermedication will produce signs of withdrawal, which can also include sleepiness but you will also have the desire to use. In either case your dose will be adjusted gradually until the criteria for stabalization are met and last for 3-5 days consecutively.

I just started Methadone maintenance for my addiction, but I am going away in two weeks. I have to go to the clinic daily to receive my meds. I live in Philly and am going to Florida.I found a methadone clinic near where I'm staying. Can my clinic send paper work down to the clinic in Florida so that they can distribute my meds to me for the week I am away? Or can my clinic supply me with a weeks worth of meds to take with me?

Yes, talk to your counselor ASAP and they will set everything up for you, You will have to pay to guest dose. If you've been clean long enough they can give you enough to last you a week or 2. I moved to S.C and they let you get a month take home, in Indiana you could only get a 4 day take home,every clinic has its own rules. Good Luck and have a great vacation!!

I am doing a research paper on mostly state runed facilities/clinic which specialize in methadone treatment, I was just wondering if anyone here has any personal experiences or views on this type of treatment? I am just wondering if I should take on a negative standpoint or a positive....

Methadone is more addictive and harder to kick than heroin. Clinics around here (mostly private) here seem to keep pushing higher methadone doses rather than attempting to get anyone off the stuff. A friend who is on methadone wishes she had just kicked heroin and never started methadone.

Methadone helps me to stay off heroin, i have to sneak and make a 2 hr drive 6 days a week to clinic for methadone. I use my moms car and nobody knows i am doing this, this is very difficult to do and very expensive, I dont know that my strait and religous family will understand.

Just curious after a long time of proving yourself to a methadone clinic (several months) and perfect attendance and 100% clean urines...how many days worth of methadone have you heard of a clinic giving to a patient? The reason why I ask, is to get an idea whether I will be able to still go on 1 wk all inclusive vacations with my family while being a part of the methadone maintenance program. I dont believe the places we go have these clinics to get your daily dose from. Thank you for your help.

I am not sure of this, but I think you should call and explain your situation.

Tell them you will call and check up, or that you will give the meds to a family member to hold.

Being clean for a long time is an amazing accomplishment, something that very few people can ever do, even with treatment.

You should be proud of yourself, and continue working to overcome your issues :)

They should be willing to discuss this with you.
