i've been on methadone for years and about a year ago i tried crystal meth. i began to notice that when i used crystal, i didnt need as much methadone. why is that? i also wanted to know why after prolonged use of both, i began to loose my strength,muscle.why?
Methadone is to replace heroin, an opiate. Crystal meth is speed, an amphetamine. Mixing these two drugs can have devastating effects on your body and the way your brain works

Has any one ever experienced withdrawal from a methadone maintainence program? If you have can you tell me if it was really as bad as I have heard?
When you're on a methadone maintenance program, you are slowly weaned off of it as the methadone dose is slowly decreased so that you don't experience the withdrawals that you would had you simply stopped whatever narcotic it was that you were on. That's the whole purpose of methadone as a way to get off of narcotics.
At one time when I was on the methadone maintainence program(taking methadone daily),I also smoked methamphetamine. I noticed that while smoking meth, I didn't need as much methadone or need to take it as often. I have since detoxed off methadone and have no intentions on doing meth or any other drug, however, I have always been very curious as to why my body didn't need as much methadone while I used methamphetamine. So I would like to know why I didn't need as much methadone when i used methamphetamine..
What are you talking about. You take any drug while going through withdrawal and you'll be craving less and have parts of it negated. That's common sense

I have a close friend who gets his dose’s every other week, i think he has been on it for at least a few years & his dose just was upped. but he does try to cut back. Ive been on it for pain before, but not long and not everyday. I have fibromyalgia, so i have pain pretty much everyday. dr’s seem to be getting way more careful with opiates though cuz even though ive never had a drug problem, i hardly get them. thats ok though. Anyways, good job!! and *hugs*
@TheBigThrash the half life of benzos is enormous.. take a benzo every day for 2 weeks and you have already developed dependency on it… the high risk of seizures while detoxing when the benzos are discontinued are a real life threat to the patient.. some people detoxing from opiates get prescribed a benzo to curve anxiety but reality is most of the time it’s not needed and the patient spirals further into addiction, this time on a different drug. Benzos need tapering down just like methadone.
