just wondering if their are any food interactions with methadone, i.e. foods that either block or increase the analgesic effects of methadone(oral form 10mg tablets) in particular. when taken for pain relief.
just wondering if their are any foods that interact with methadone(oral form 10mg. tabs) only one i have found is grapefruit. More like.. does taking it before or after a meal effect anything. what types of meals that may increase or decrease the analgesic effects of methadone when taken for pain relief.

Grapefruit is the only food listed on the Drug Interaction Chart from the company and the only one most clinics warn against. It will increase the effects of the Methadone because it inhibits an intestinal enzyme CYP3A4 but this effect is not expected with
other fruits/juices (Karlix 1990).

I have been on a Methadone Maintenance Program for about 4 months now. I've gained about 50 or so pounds since last June and I'm ready to begin a new and healthy lifestyle. I would appretiate any thoughts on this as I want to be as safe as possible.

Taking anything to loose weight is not healthy. Why not do it the best way possible, exercise, eat right and drink lots of water? I used to walk and hike every day, no big deal, and ate right and drank water constantly--size 6 and toned was the end result. Best thing, I felt the best I've ever felt in my life.

My mom is taking 125 micrograms a day [morning] with 10 mg of methadone in the afternoon. On both prescriptions it says it has drug interactions with the other; my question is what exactly is the drug interaction? She does not have insurance so it is very hard to get these 2 docters working together.. thank our health care system!

Ive been on liquid methadone for 2 years now, and I have never taken anything else with it, I previously was prescribed Neurotin before I got on Liquid Methadone, and I was wondering if i could take the 2 together without there being a negative interaction, I have asked at the Clinic and they said I could, but I would like to hear someones experience / opinion before I actually take them together..( I know that any drugs can have side effects and interactions ) Thanks.

There is a moderate interaction between these two drugs since both of them affect your CNS. Taking both together, can have prolonged or excessive depression on the CNS. Because of this, you should avoid any activities that require mental alertness till you know how the drug is affecting your system. Also, if you notice any prolonged effects, please tell your doctor asap.
