why does methadone test the same as herion?

Methadone is a synthetic opiate and it does not test the same as Heroin. A test specific for Heroin will test positive only if the person used heroin and a test for methadone will test + only if the person used methadone. Tests for opiates will be + if the person has used Hydrocodone, oxycodone, Morphine, etc. but not methadone.

C21H27NO is the chemical structure of methadone. It's a synthetic opiate, which where originally developed to cure severe pain, and it's a morphine like drug. It's used to detox drug addicts, and are also given to cancer patients, as a pain relief.

I need to give someone a drug test. They say that they are only taking methadone which the doctor gives them but I think that they are taking oxy contin or percocet or roxicet. so what type of drug test should I get. I think what i am trying to ask is if I give them a drug test does show up as the same thing. Does methadone have any of the ingredients that the other 3 have. I just need to know if they are taking any other thing besides what is prescribed to them.

Ask the pharmacist at your local drug store for a kit that tests for the widest amount of drugs possible....I think 10 panels is the largest, but am not positive. A standard 5 panel test used by most employers normally is for marijuana, opiates, cocaine, methamphetamines, and benzos. However, I have seen a 6 panel test that along with testing for opiates, also tests for Oxycodone by itself. Since Oxycontin, Percocet, and Roxicet all have oxycodone as an active ingredient, that specific test would come back positive if they are using any of them. The more "panels" a drug test has, the more drugs you are able to test for.
