From time to time i like to take a opiates( sometime also methadone). My question regards about Dreams and Opiates.

I find that the few times i take opiates, towards the end of the evening when I go to bed to relax with music and no light, slowly slowly falling asleep,
I enter into an almost trance like state or twilight sleep where my imagination or dreams become very vivid, almost like watching a movie off of the back of my eye lids.

I do not have any control over these half waking imaginations/half asleep dreaming, it sort of just flows and again, is very realistic(in the sense that its more clear and vivid than usually when one uses his imagination).

And also it seems that the imagination and dreams once I do fall asleep are always nightmarish. Even the vivid waking imagination are usually strange images of half human, half demonid types. And theres is at times also feelings of something evil and bad, almost like somthing supernatrual.
With Methadone its the same thing, even more intense at times it seems.

MY QUESTION IS: What causes the ingestion of Opiates and Methadone to activate such vivid and surreal imagery and nightmarish dream?
They are not consider hallucinogens, and yet in the dark with ones eyes closed there ALMOST what would seem like hallucination, or an exaggeration of ones mental activity in regards to images and flow of imagination.

If anyone knows something about this topic please elaborate or share a link to where I can do further reading.

Also I do know that MORPHINE is named after MORPHEUS, the Greek god of dreams. Morpheus is also the son of Hypnos, the god of sleep.

I think some of these imagination/dreams are actually Lucid Dreams.
Are there ways to gain control of the dreams, to check if one is dreaming or actually awake?

I'm not sure about your first question, but about taking control there are several techniques you can use. First you might want to see the movie Waking life also you may want to read a book called the Einstein Factor. Both of these will help to take control over your dreams.

A couple of ways you can take control is to ask yourself through out the day am I dreaming or say this is a dream or something to that effect. When you ask or say these things enough over time you will begin to say and ask them in your dream. Once your realize enough times in your dream that you are dreaming you begin to have control. Another thing you can do is try and notice in your dream light. If you ever come across a light switch or lamp in your dream try to turn it on or off, you notice that it turns on or off but the light does not change. Same goes when it goes from day or night inside or outside, it is always the same kind of light. Another thing you notice is that clocks numbers never make any sense.

But really you would have to see that movie and or read that book to really fully understand how to do this. I am not very good at description.

Help coping with finding my brother-in-law of 10 years dead?

Last March, I was babysitting my sisters 2 kids (5 years old and 10 years old) while she went to work, and her boyfriend of 10 years, who i had known since i was 6 (i was 16 when this happened and am now 17) was upstairs sleeping. My niece and nephew were outside, playing at the play ground with a few other friends and neighbors, while me and my now exboyfriend we watching tv inside. My sister called me around noon to see how things were and told me to check on her boyfriend because he said he didnt feel good earlier. I had heard my nephew go upstairs and talk to him about a half hour before that, so i figured he was fine. Around 2 i decided just to go see if he needed anything. i looked at him and he was in a weird position and i couldnt tell if he was breathing or not. i called my boyfriend upstairs and he looked at him and touched him, and said he felt cold. i immediately made sure the kids stayed outside and ran and got the neighbor. we went back into the room, and her and a couple other neighbors tried to wake him. i went insane and backed into the bathroom. my boyfriend brought me downstairs and the ambulance and cops came, and pronounced him dead. the scene of seeing him dead, and the trauma of the whole event, and the terrible feelings i feel that my little niece and nephews father is dead and my sisters boyfriend, kills me everyday, and i even feel guilt terribly and feel like if i would have checked on him sooner, maybe he could have survived. the autopsy showed he died from having mixtures of coke, methadone, alcohol, and other things in his system. lately though, the images of him and the guilt and sadness of the event has been very strong, and i cant sleep, or think straight. i dont know what to do...

its not your fault, somethings just happen and theres nothing you can do about it. but i can see your a good person because you care. but its not your fault. Dont worry about it (: and if you have trouble coping with his death after a while you could always go to a therapist and talk to him about how you feel.

You're better off asking in a science section of Y!A.
I've found drugs in general to mess up my dreams and sleep in general.
That being said, lucid dreaming can be fun and pleasant, and possible without drugs. I don't know if that helped....

Does DXM give you false positives on drug tests? PLEASE HELP!!!?

I am about to get tested for my job. I heard that DXM/cough syrup can give you false positives on urine tests. I do cough syrup pretty regularly. They will be using the drug testing kit shown here

http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51 3HDB4C33L._AA280_.jpg

It tests for marijuana, cocaine, ecstasy, PCP, amphetamine, opiates, methamphetamines, benzodiazepines, barbiturates, methadone, oxycodon and tricyclic antidepressants.

Please help!! Thank you very much.

There's some anecdotal evidence that DXM can cause false positives for PCP and/or opiates.

If it does show up, a differential test should tell them youre not a pcp addict.
