What is the main difference between Suboxone and Methadone?

From my research it seems that Suboxone is safer, fits into your life better (no standing in line at 5am) and does not have the severe withdrawals that methadone users experience. I would like some real life answers..it is to get off of the roller coaster of pain pill addiction. How expensive is Suboxone w/o insurance?

sub is "easier' to get, meaning you only need to see a doctor once a month to get it instead of going to a clinic daily.

However, they are both super long lasting opiates and both produce severe and very long lasting withdrawals once you try to discontinue them.

Most sub doctors are charging about $200 per office visit (for a 10 minute visit just to write a script) and the pills cost about $7 for an 8mg tablet at a pharmacy.

Getting off pain pills is a 30 day roller coaster ride, and getting off sub or methadone is a 2 year roller coaster ride...a very bumpy ride that most can't tolerate.

You also will have all the same side effects on sub or methadone you have on pain pills, plus usually some new ones.

I would strongly recommend you look at other options. I went the sub route after being filled with lies from doctors about how great it is, and it robbed me of 5 years of my life.

If i had to do it all over again, I would go inpatient to detox for 30 days, or less, and be done with it. No one ever wants to go inpatient and be away from their family and loved ones for that long, but compared to sub or meth, 30 days of your life is a breeze.

PERSONAL EXPERIENCES with Methadone and Opiate addiction.. please!?

I am 19 and about to come off of a 1 year opiate addiction. (Percocet, Hydrocodone) I was taking AT LEAST 10-14 percocet or hydrocodone (depending on strength) each time (bout 2-4 times a day)
I have told my family and we have all decided to put me in Rehab. and thank goodness my family is going to pay for it. I would be on the streets in another month if I kept on.
Anyways...
Will it be easy to start off with Methadone detox? Has anyone gone through this before? What Happend?

Thanks A Lot!!

I have never been through this but have an opinion. If it were me, I'd go "cold turkey" in a medical detox if needed. It takes just 3-5 days to get most substances out of your system. I would not continue with putting more drugs in your body (Methadone). You need to be drug free, make it happen. Best wishes with your recovery, you can do it. God bless.

i need to know about the side effects im experiencing with methadone?

im having serious side effects with methadone and the docs dont believe it because these side effects are not heard of.

Get emergency medical help if you have any of these signs of an allergic reaction: hives; difficulty breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.
Call your doctor at once if you have any of these serious side effects:

shallow breathing;
hallucinations or confusion; or
fast or pounding heartbeats, chest pain, trouble breathing, feeling light-headed, fainting.
Other, less serious side effects may be more likely to occur, such as:

feeling anxious, nervous, or restless;
sleep problems (insomnia);
dizziness, drowsiness, or weakness;
dry mouth, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, loss of appetite; or
decreased sex drive, impotence, or difficulty having an orgasm.
This list is not complete and other side effects may occur. Tell your doctor about any unusual or bothersome side effect.

Can you share your experience with methadone? How good or bad has it affected you?

Do you find it as a stimulant or as a sedative?

How did it affect your health?

Methadone should only be used by people trying to get off of an opiate addiction. It can just as bad for your health as heroin is. Methadone will not give you a rush. It will not make you feel up. Nor will it really sedate you. Methadone works by blocking opiate receivers in your brain. It would most likely just make you feel a little depressed.

Hope this helps!

Does anybody have first hand experience with methadone treatment?

I have tried looking the subject up online and have found a lot of information, but I can't find much from people who have actually gone through the treatment.

I am an MMT patient and I have a website with info plus there is an excellent forum called We Speak Methadone where you can talk to others on Methadone treatment with many years experience in the field. Some there are new, others have detoxed, some use Suboxone, etc. Any questions you have could be answered there or at my site. Mine is new so there aren't as many people registeredyet but feel free to use both. My URL is...

Methadone Clinics | Parents, what are you doing to stop the cycle ...

Since all people will always have some sort of negative bias towards at least one group the best thing that I have found is to explain why people believe some things and why (in most cases, especially racism or homophobia) why such stereotypes are wrong. Some of your examples actually are statistically true however.

“Rich provide better educations for their children” – Many rich families put their children in private schools which have larger budgets per student and pay to have the best teachers. Also, because said schools are not unionized, it is easier to get rid of ineffective teachers.

Which leads me to: “Rich raise spoiled, rotten brats” – Since people usually mix with people of similar means, many of the children of wealthy people have little, if any, experience with the lifestyle of less well off people. Some of them expect a level of treatment that comes off as spoiled or entitled to many people. (This is not statistically provable, however, I have found this to be the case in my own experiences as well as other peoples’ anecdotal experiences)
