I am planning on getting my class A license and a long haul truck driving job. I have had to take pain meds in the past for back pain. Is it legal to take prescription pain meds while driving the big rigs. The pain meds that work for me are oxycodone(percacet) or methadone.
I know that it is against the law to use methadone and drive a truck but I am not sure about the other meds. I would call Human Resources and ask what the policy is regarding prescription medications and driving.

Since beta blockers reduce the demand of the heart muscle for oxygen and the chest pain of angina pectoris occurs when the oxygen demand of the heart exceeds the supply, beta blockers can be useful in treating angina. They have also become an important drug in improving survival after a person has had a heart attack.
I can see an issue with a person who is withdrawing from any type of drug and cardiac issues, especially irregular heartbeats, tachycardia with resulting increases in blood pressure. They would be used, but these are usually short term and done while someone is in detox, having their bp and heart rate monitored regularly for several days! I would have no clue why someone would be take it unless prescribed by an MD and the harmful effects may be seen if the person didn't take it!
If you feel he is under the influence call the police. If the kids are in the car that is neglect and CPS will have an issue with him driving them anywhere!
For everyones information the bottle does not say don't operate heavy machinery or drive while on this medication. The only warning is the one about the law for transferring prescriptions to another person. Additionally, when I go to the clinic to pick up my medication there is ALWAYS a police officer standing guard in the parking lot. Watching me and countless others get in and out of cars. Go figure.
you can't, the prescription on the bottle says do not operate heavy equipment. cars are considered heavy equipment and you are guilty of Operation While Intoxicated (or Influenced)
I was thinking about going to school for truck driving. I also take methadone legally. A few people told me you cant get a cdl license or drive a truck while on methadone then a few people told me they changed that law. Anybody know the facts? If its a state by state thing i live in MA

I have drug addicted friend. He's on methadone but he's still taking heroin sometimes. Because of the medicine and the drugs for him is really hard to concentrate, he forgets really easy, he doesn't really think clear. Sometimes he looks totally lost even when he's trying to walk to somewhere. The medical institution he goes to take the methadone know he's still take heroin and in what kind of states he gets sometimes.
The thing is - he still has his driving license. Is that normal? I mean, i think it's dangerous for him and other people on the road to let him drive. Fortunately nothing has happened while he's driving, but still, isn't it any legal prohibition for people in that situation to have driving license?
It is illegal to drive impaired on any drug but the thing is you have to get caught doing it. They will not talk away your license because you are on a med, only if they prove you are driving on it and it impairs you. Then you get charged go to court and the judge can take it away. Or I suppose someone can make a phone call to law enforcement. Tell your friend to try a Suboxon clinic, it is like Methadone without many of the horrible side affects of Methadone, and it's less addictive, plus it is much more affective at helping people kick drugs.
