i am currently detoxing from methadone through a clinic i was 80mgs went to 40,30,25,20,and now 15 i thought i would be able to stop at this point but to just go through one day is hard.i'm trying to do it the right way and my counsler warned me that doing it to fast is no good iwent down within a month and a half and although i was ok til i got to 15{no sleep, restless legs and just plain a nasty person to be around} how in the world am i ever gonna do this.i get alot of slack from my partner he is highly against this and i feel it saved my life and made it possible for me to have mt twin girls.now i don;t even no what i'm asking here i guess do you ever feel normal again its been so long to just be on nothing i forgot what that feels like.i would like to have that natural energy again, but on the otherhand i'm afraid to go bck 2 drugs.any positive advice for me?i need help...
You're going down way too fast. To be comfortable, you should be going down only 2-3 mg per week. When you get below 20, you should get some Clonidine from your doctor to help you when you feel like you want to jump out of your skin.
If you didn't have twin girls, you would probably be able to lock yourself in your bedroom for 10 days and going down fast would work. But since you have to be there for those girls every day, you need to be at a dose that makes you feel comfortable. Having a partner that doesn't understand is the worst thing in the world when trying to detox from Methadone, I know this from experience. Download a presentation called "opiates on the brain" and have your partner read it. It might help a little.
You can get it here:

You can do it, you really can. It won't be very comfortable, but it will be manageable. Tomorrow I am taking my last dose of 2 mg. I started at 65mg, went down 5mg per week to 30, stayed there for 30 days, went down 5mg a week to 15, stayed there for 2 weeks, then went down from there. I tried it before and couldn't do it, but now that I have Clonidine to help me out, I am able to conquer this addiction.
Here is another webpage that has helped me learn some truthful facts about Methadone and how to detox successfully:

YOU CAN DO THIS!

Day 11 of me at 0mgs of methadone...i talk a little about the benefits of marijuana during a opiate withdrawals...especially methadone...and get ...
Ive been taking up to 160mg of oxycontin a day, everyday. I cant seem to detox cold turkey on my own and cant afford to buy enough drugs to detox myself slowly. I'm not sure if methadone is good because of the come down, addictive properties, etc. I really dont want to go to a full inpatient 30 day rehab either. I dont know what to do.
With taking that much oxycontin you really are going to need help getting off it. Your best bet is getting help. Believe you me i've seen it and want the best for you!

I just started a new job that dosent offer insurance. im desperatly trying to get of Methadone because its holding me back and i cant afford it. Is there any rehab that will take me in with no insurance and little money up front. I live in Nashville TN but it dosent have to be here.
I'm not too sure about the insurance aspect, but I would recommend that you take a look at this site, http://www.drugabuse.com/drug-abuse-help .html?utm_source=ans&utm_medium=pv&a mp;utm_content=ld&utm_campaign=rcx, and on there you will find a lot of useful and helpful information about drug abuse, and treatment options that are available.
There also is a toll-free helpline number that I think you should call, and a trained professional will be able to answer your questions, and hopefully help you get back on track and moving in the right direction going forward.
Good Luck to you, and Best Wishes
Ive recently opened up to someone close, and found out that they are trying to go thru a methadone detox. By the way he describes it, theres nothing worse! With technology today, there has to be an easier less expensive way to help him!! He doesnt want to be at this substances' mercy any longer. Any suggestions???
Methadone is a very long acting medication. It is used in opioid addiction treatment for precisely that reason--because it need only be taken once per day to sustain a stable level in the blood for 24 hours. However, it also takes much longer to taper off than short acting opioids.
If someone were to cease using heroin abruptly, for example, they would be physically ill for 3-5 days. With methadone, the acute physical withdrawals are more like 3-5 weeks. It isn't that the symptoms are more severe--they simply last much longer, and the human body can only withstand so much vomiting, diarrhea, high blood pressure, sweating, etc. In fact, people can and have died from methadone withdrawals--usually in jail where they are unable to seek help, and usually from cardiac arrest stemming from electrolyte imbalance due to dehydration, or stroke due to high blood pressure.
The recommended rate of tapering, in order to avoid withdrawal symptoms, is no more than 10% of their dose every 2-4 weeks (this would be for someone on a methadone clinic or taking it for pain), all the way down to 1 mg before stepping off. Anything less will produce withdrawals. It can take awhile to do a proper taper, obviously, and people tend to get impatient and go too fast or stop too soon, causing them to become sicker than they ever expected to feel. They usually relapse and end up having to start all over again.
However if your friend is using street methadone that is a different matter. They should get into a methadone clinic and allow the clinic to complete a safe taper for him
How long would it take till I felt normal again after consistantly taking 100mgs of methadone daily, stopping cold turkey? Please dont insult or give stupid answers. I really need some meaningful help. I've had all the insults and suggestions and I'm not an idiot. If anyone knows or has experience, let me know.
OK. First thing I want to say is whoever told you you'll be physically sick for a week and mentally for longer. Don't listen that's wrong. I have been on methadone for 1 1/2 years. In the past when I was on it years ago I had to go cold turkey and a month later I was still very sick. Being on 100mg to nothing you'll probably be pretty sick for a month or two. After that you'll feel better but not 100%. You will still have anxiety, goosebumps, sneezing, sleeplessnees(for at least 6 months) and other annoying but manageable symptoms. I have seen my husband go cold turkey off a high amt ( alomst 200 mg) He was in jail for a month and a half and when he got out he was still too weak to even walk more than a couple steps, still had diarrea, vomiting, muscle aches, etc.
I'd highly recommend, from experience, to SLOWLY taper off if you can. Like a couple mgs a week. If you are not already at a clinic you should get into one they will help you with a comfortable detox.
Good Luck!

Methadone Detox | Hidden
From the Publisher: As unnerving as it is mesmerizing, Hidden is an evocative, emotionally charged domestic drama — a willful and traumatized woman’s painful search for the truth about the man who assaulted her one summer night. Six years after the attack, Maggie Wilson receives a call from the prosecutor who helped put her husband in jail after Maggie identified him as the man who nearly killed her. Told that another inmate has confessed to the crime and that her ex-husband will be freed, the shock plunges Maggie into memories of her stormy marriage to Nate Duke, the ambitious heir to a real estate company. Secluded in an old farmhouse that was her marital home, Maggie relives her marriage to Nate and his abusive treatment of her. But in her present, a very different man is haunting her — the born-again convict who has confessed to the crime. As his story competes with hers, Maggie pores through trial transcripts, old journals, and photo albums, trying fruitlessly to remember exactly what happened. Written in spare, elegant prose, Paul Jaskunas’s novel reads like a waking dream as Maggie is torn by the question — was it Nate? Or was it this stranger who seems to know intimate details? And what will it cost her to discover the truth? A work of searing suspense written in the heroine’s brave voice, Hidden is ultimately about a woman confronting the betrayal of her body and the ambiguity of her mind.
