I Need to do this at home.Broke, no car. I have been on 20mg daily for almost 2mo. How do I get off the low dose? I have to be okay for my children. I can't count on my husband. Does anyone know about using vitamins or Noni juice to lessen the pain of withdrawal? Is there anything that will really help with the awful bone pain and insomnia? Tried ambien, soma, benadryl, elavil, Nothing helps. I cannot afford rapid detox and have no one to help with my children.I am so scared.I HAVE to do this and any advice to lessen the unbearable pain of withdrawal will also help. Please hurry,I am starting 15mg tomorrow, need to know what to expect the lower I go and what I should do?I would be grateful for any legitimate advice.thanks!
I understand this from personal experience. The hard fact is for you to stop the daily meds, you really have to stop. You'll puke, have seizures, total loss of control of bowels and urine. BUT, in 7 - 14 days, if you are still alive, you won't ever need it again !
If you must stop, and it appears you do, speak straight to a doctor and request Valium or ativan to help your mental state from a panic-driven fear. Now you are AFRAID. You are right to be. But, you are living in hell now and your kids are suffering for your selfish ways.
Grow up and take responsibility. I stopped cold turkey, and I have 3 children too. I saw my weakness for what it was. There are no magic bullets or vitamins that will help. Stop looking for substances to fix a mental addiction.
If you give a damn about your family, and children you brought into this world, you must look in the mirror. It just isn't that hard compared to the damage you spread to others.
Watch the first 10 minutes of the movie "Trainspotting". You'll get a run down on what you need to quit. You will need 2 weeks though and you won't like it.

the methadone was prescribed for me three years ago but the constipation from it is unbearable i want to stop taking it i am on a dose of 30 to 40 mgm day as needed i mostly take 30 mgm unless pain is too bad. i do not want to go to md and request stop use because they will send me to a rehab and to a detox first i just want to stop on my own without all the bruhaaha i am an older woman retired and just want to live without the bowel problems i can take the pain but not this constipation. please help me i have no where else to go
You have to slowly reduce your dose. If you are on 40 mg.'s you take 40 for 2 days, 35 for 2 days, 30 for 2 days and on down until you get down to 5 milligrams. The thing is you will need something else for pain, non-narcotic otherwise it will not work.
The other choice is switching over to Subutex or Buprenorphine. I am taking a college class on this right now and constipation is a large problem for those on maintenance doses of any narcotic.
Good luck. Mylanta Supreme works well to help with constipation even though it is a heartburn remedy. 2 tablespoons at bedtime.
I just completed a 7 day detox from methadone at a behavioral ward at the hospital. But know that I'm home I still feel kind of sick,(headache ,nausea) and a general sense of flu symptoms. Will this go away soon,I drink alot of water and took vitamins too.I worked hard at this and I want to fell better!
Stay with it, you're doing all the right things with the vitamins and water ;don't drink more than 2 litres per day and make sure it's a good quality multi vitamin and mineral supplement tha you're taking.
Methadone takes a while to get over for reasons to do with it's effect on your brain chemistry. The 'flu like symptoms and other generalised sickness and pain are a result of your brains ablility to produce its' own endorphins being compromised. Normal functioning of the brain produces endorphins which are like natural painkillers. When we are addicted to opioids this function ceases because the receptors in the brain get used to the introduced drug(e.g. methadone) and the transmitters stop producing because there is no demand. It takes a while for this function to get back to normal. If you can start working out or running this will speed up the recovery. If not just lie low for a wee while, but not too long.
Good luck! I wish you the very best and I mean that from the depths of my heart!
My son at this time is in a detox for the next 72 hours for coming off heroin and oxycontin, He's been on suboxen before and it didn't work. The nurse at the center gave me the name of a Methadone clinic very close to our home, being the Detox center is 50 miles away, today I called the nurse at the Methadone clinc and she said that there would have to be an opiate present in his system to get in...now this leaves me in a stumper....what should I do? When he comes out of this clinic he'll be clean, but it won't be for long, the urge is just to much for him...so what should I do let him use and then take him to the clinic or what?
You probably should have got him in the Methadone clinic before sending him to the detox. He never would have needed to go to the detox and suffer if he had started at thje Methadone clinic. I know that doesn't help now but I thought you should know. I went through several detoxes and even a seizure before I found Methadone and it gave me my life back. I couldn't believe I had suffered through all those withdrawals when I didn't have to.The people at the clinic told me the first 2 weeks they realize you will be increasing your dose and finding what works for you during which time you will be uncomfortable (they realize this is when most people relapse and figure they failed) so they told me I was allowed to test positive for low to moderate amounts of Vicodin, hydrocodone, or Oxycontin during that point and it would not count against me. I did take a few Vicodin the first week with my Methadone but after the first week it was as if my drug use had been a dream. I had used for ten years and it was a miracle. My parents have their daughter back and my son has a mother. Unfortunately there are many who believe the media and the stigma like the previous poster but you can see for yourself when your sons life turns around. I have decided to "pay it forward" so to speak after my experience by educating others about this wonderful medication and the way it works. I have a video shown in many clinics which you can view at my website... http://www.findingnormal.webs.com
BTW..I know I got carried away and didn't answer your question..LOL He will need opiates in his system when he goes. Methadone can only be taken safely by those who are tolerant of opiates. So, it would be dangerous to give it to someone without opiates in their system. However, don't let him use this as an excuse to shoot Heroin. He will still be sick so he might try that. I would give him an Oxycontin or Vicodin the night before he goes to the clinic. He won't get a very big dose the first day and it is increased gradually. BTW, Suboxone has been shown to be much less effective in Heroin users and long term or "hard core" addictions. So don't feel like this won't work either. Methadone is one of the safest drugs out there and has been used for over 40yrs. to treat opiate addiction. The stories you hear about are usually from pain management centers are because of the recent use of Methadone in pain clinics to treat pain. Good Luck and e-mail me if their anything I can do.
Hello, I have been on Methadone for about 6 months, never going above a 30mg daily dose so that one day I would be able to quit. In fact I was at 19mg dose but had oral surgery and after taking the prescribed Opiates I needed to jump up to 30mg. Last week I decided that I was fed up of the clinic and did a self imposed rapid detox. I had take home doses and the first day I skipped taking the dose, 2nd day only took 20mg, third day 10mg...then cold turkey....nada, none nothing. Now is the 4th day of no methadone and am not feeling great but also am not dying either. How long will this last, this lack of energy and crazy sleep patterns. I hate the clinic because it is full of drug dealers and the staff seems to try to convince you that you need to keep going up and they act like Methadone isn't a drug, when we all know it is. Well I am just trying to find others opinions on this and any knowledge of how long I will have to endure this mild like flu I am feeling (nothing like I felt trying to quit opiates cold turkey)...>THANKS.
Good for you!!! Quiting any narcotic is hard and the withdrawals can be quite painful! I recently read something on the web about quiting Methadone cold turkey, I'll attach the website for you. You can expect the symptoms to last anywhere from 3-10 days. My doctor has been trying to get me to take Methadone for chronic pain and I refuse to take it. Hang in there, you're doing great!
