My cousin overdosed on methadone yesterday and I just want to know what might happen to him and what his body is going threw and what it went threw when he started to overdose.

Every single one of the people that answered your question dont know shit. Methadone has nothing to do with methamphetamines. Methadone is a synthetic opiate. It does not rot your teeth, and it is not just used to get addicts off of drugs. I am prescribed it for my pain. If you take too much it can cause respratory problems, stomach cramping, vomiting, and ultimately death. He is more than likely feeling like he has a very bad hangover, and for the next 2-3 days he will feel sweaty and kind of like he has a cold. That feeling is the medicine coming out of his system. Methadone builds up slowly in your system, that is why it is so easy to take too much of it. Unless you are prescribed a medication or you know a hell of alot about it, you shouldnt take it.

I just don't understand why people abuse methadone. I know ALOT of people who pay $5 for a 10 mg pill. I was under the impression you DON'T get high from them, that they were used to help people get off of herion and other opiates and for pain because they last so long. I am just wondering why people are crazy about them... Any answers would be awesome

hello,I have been on 130mg of methadone for 4 years for vicodin addiction,I thank God that I found this treatment,when I first started on treatment they started me on 50 mg,I felt good at first but that "good"feeling wears off after a few weeks.If you're not taking methadone on a regular basis it will give the person a sort of high.Now I don't feel any high and I've been off of vicodin for 3 and a half years.Hope this helps

well you could becuse you can say youre clean takeing mathadone becuse its precribed so if someone has the training and as been on it for a while then you could but Im agasnt long term methadone matince plus you couldent give youre complete recovery to youre clints becuse youre not there yet I would recomend geting off the metahdone and liveing life complety clean first

It might seem stupid but I am looking for a career in this field.
I don't know if I have to take psychology, nursing or other.
I would like to get involved in substance abuse treatments, detoxification, Methadone Detoxification.

This doesn't seem stupid at all given humans will always have substance problems.....you will always have a job, and all the better if you have a passion for this type of work.

A four-year nursing degree is very versatile and will give you more work options. I would choose nursing, unless you exclusively want to be a clinical psychologist in which case you need a PhD in psychology or masters in social work.
