27 yrs old with chronic pain . spinal fusion @ l5- s1 with hardware. was on morphine 30 mgs. doc changed script 2 methadone 40 mgs, and had me sick, vomiting & sweating.what do i do?
Go back and ask to switch to Morphine 60s, or 100's, or to switch to 40 mg Oxycontins.
Its odd that a doctor would try Methadone with you in lieu of Oxycodone or Fentanyl without having tried those first.

I just found out when I went to get my Methadone perscription filled today that the FDA sent out advisorys to all Doctors and Pharmacies prohibiting them from perscribing or selling 40 mg Methadone after Jan.1 2008. Only Detox/Rehab centers or hospitals will have access to this drug. I personally am on 50 mg per day for pain managment & have been for 7 yrs. The nurse at my Dr. office also told me that even though the 5 & 10 mg tablets were not affected, that if any Doctor is caught writing a large perscription of the 5 or 10 mg methadone tablets for a patient, they will be turned in to the DEA. She told me they did this because they've decided that 40 mg Methadone isn't considered to be for pain managment; it is for Opiate detoxification-uh...ok(?. What are others out there in the same situation doing about this? Also, can any Dr. (like my pain mng. Dr for instance) write out a script for Subutex/Bupranorphin or would I have to go to somthing like a 2wk. Detox center? PLEASE HELP!!!
Did they replace the Rx with something else?

I hope they gave you an equivalent medication, kadian or avinza will do just as well. Are they going to give you something else for your pain.

I have back problems and have been taking 40 mgs of methadone a day for a year now. I am having trouble getting off of them and have been suggested suboxone. Just wondering how long this will take to kick and If I will just end up replacing suboxone for the methadone. Any first hand info on suboxone would be appreciated. Before I talk to a doctor.
Suboxone, unlike methadone (in a different manner), has a "ceiling" limit... It provides both opiate, and anti-opiate receptive chemicals... Suboxone is addictive, yet does not create the same "high", or euphoria as methadone... Suboxone has been used in the treatment of Heroin addicts as a substitution to Methadone and as a treatment for Methadone addicts.
If you are using this drug simply for pain, it has been shown to have great results, and it may improve your cognitive functioning given it's limited properties (however you can overdose)... Suboxone can be dangerous, as well as even worse, taking methadone on a regular basis. You are doing yourself more harm than good by taking these super strong prescription drugs.
If you are concerned that you will not acheive the same "high", than you have a drug problem.
Meet others who have recovered. Admit you cannot live without the drugs because of the feeling, and not the pain. You can always live out the pain. Take glucosamine supplements... eat healthy, work out. Although these drugs help null the pain in the first place and put you in a better mood, the pain will only get worse, your feelings only worse taking this stuff. It's a waste of your money and your time... meet others who have recovered from pain and prescription medication.

no, the fentanyl would take away the methadone withdrawls.if your detoxing off methadone u shouldnt drop from 40 to 5 that quick u should drop 5 mg. a day. my bf just got off methadone and he went down 10mg a week untill he got to 20 then went 3 a week till 8mg then he just stopped.he still went thru wd but not as bad as they would be if drop to quickly
