Methadone Drug Addiction .com

Some people are on methadone for their entire lives. I was personally on methadone for about 2 years. Even though I stopped with the street opiates, I was now addicted to a much more potent opiate that is MUCH more difficult to detox from. Plus you have to go to the methadone clinic every day, which is the most spiritually void place I've ever been to in my life. The only way I was able to get off the methadone was to switch to suboxone (buprenorphine). This was difficult, since I was on 220 mg of methadone a day. To transition, it is recommended that you taper your methadone dose down to 30-40 mg. This was difficult, but suboxone was a life saver for me. I only had to visit a doctor once a month-there was no clinic I needed to go to every day, so I was able to live a much more normal, less stigmatized life. There are downsides to suboxone. It is expensive without insurance (about $8/pill) and it is difficult to detox from-it is a long acting partial opiate, and post acute withdrawal symptoms can last for 1-2 months and longer for some people. However, if you are currently on methadone, and especially if you have to go to the clinic every day, I would STRONGLY recommend transitioning to suboxone.

I'm on 220 Mg's, and its cold turkey ,but I got to clean up, its been since 1972 ,and I'm still on a nod?

First of all, I have experienced cold turkey methadone withdrawals, and it was pure hell. I quit cold turkey after I lowered my dose to 40mg and had been on it 2 years.

I can't imagine you quitting cold turkey from 220mg if you have been on since 72' A MUCH better way to get off is to taper your dose to at least 20mg before quitting cold turkey. OR, switch to buprenorphine after you taper your methadone dose.

Clonidine helps just a little bit, but I'd have it in stock plus tons of xanax and some comfort opiates if you can get any(codeine, etc.)

If you don't want to nod, then why are you taking 220mg? you do realize that that's an extremely high dose?

Another way to get off is to do heroin for 2-3 months, then kick the heroin, much easier.

Methadone is used for heroin addiction. No evidence exists that Obama was ever a cocaine addict. George W Bush has admitted that he used cocaine himself.

Sure, methadone can be stopped, but it's very difficult and should not be attempted without consulting a doctor first. Methadone is given to heroin addicts as a substitute for heroin because it's less harmful and you're less likely to die from a methadone overdose since the medication is dispensed by clinics and the dosage is carefully monitored. It's still a narcotic-based drug though. That's why it's so difficult to stop using it. A doctor can monitor a patient who is attempting to stop using methadone and can help deal with the withdrawal symptoms and any other issues that may come up.
