Methadone Drug Addiction .com

My doctor prescribed liquid methadone to me. They come in small plastic bottles and each have 70 milligrams of medication in them.
Will I be able to take them aboard the plane? I am flying to New York (to see me new grand baby!) from Michigan.

I took my methadone with me on an airplane trip but it was before 9/11 so the rules may have changed. But at that time It is just like any other controlled substance medication, make sure the lables are on it with your name on it. I also go a letter from my clinic stating I was a pt and was prescribed the methadone. You also should have a clinic ID card which is also verification of your ability to have the methadone.

ALSO! VERY IMPORTANT - DO NOT put your methadone in your luggage that will go into the storage of the plane. Not only do you not want to chance someone stealing it out of your luggage and/or your luggage getting lost, but the change in air pressure during the flight has been know to breach the seals on the bottles and your methadone ending up overflowing out the bottles. So, be sure you take it with you in your purse or carryon.

I got searched and they found needle in my car and are charging me 5th degree felony. Will they win case even though I am prescribed methadone But supposed to take it orally and i told cop i used it to measure out an extra 5mg of my liquid methadone and squirted into my mouth?

You have already been charged. Use your excuse.

Need 2 know if liquid methadone in a regular plastic with lid container that the Dr. gives it 2 you in, does it lose any potency or effectivness if left in storage or medicine cabinet for a while? I was told it loses its potency after a month? is that true?if i get a month supply would my last doses be not as effective as my first week or two's?

Many clinics suggest that it be kept in the refrigerator to prevent bacteria from growing and keep it fresh. In addition, I would recommend that you keep it in a lock box in the fridge and NEVER in a medicine cabinet because if someone were to take it (you never know these days) and die you could be charged. Better safe than sorry.

Ive been on liquid methadone for 2 years now, and I have never taken anything else with it, I previously was prescribed Neurotin before I got on Liquid Methadone, and I was wondering if i could take the 2 together without there being a negative interaction, I have asked at the Clinic and they said I could, but I would like to hear someones experience / opinion before I actually take them together..( I know that any drugs can have side effects and interactions ) Thanks.

There is a moderate interaction between these two drugs since both of them affect your CNS. Taking both together, can have prolonged or excessive depression on the CNS. Because of this, you should avoid any activities that require mental alertness till you know how the drug is affecting your system. Also, if you notice any prolonged effects, please tell your doctor asap.

Also what would be the correct dosage when switching from 60mg oxycontin to methadone. The docs put me on 30mg & that was ok for about the first month. I'm thinking either 60 which would be 2 three times a day or 40 one four times a day.

Hello there. I would like to tell you how sorry I am that you are in so much pain. I also take Methadone for pain and was switched to it after oxycontin no longer helped. I take such high doses that they thought the liquid might be better for me. That stuff tasted so gross that I could not handle it so they put me back on the pills. This leads me to believe that there is not alot of difference between the pills and the liquid form. (other than the taste!)
I take ten mgs tablets, 3 of them, twice a day. So that is 30mgs twice a day.
I do know that you can not compare mgs of one medication directly to another. In other words 4 mgs of one medication might be stronger than 20 mgs of another. It depends on the drug. Just because you needed 60 mgs of oxycontin does not mean that you would need that much methadone.
I have been on every pain medication that there is including plain old morphine and the methadone works best for me.
I really hope that you can resolve your problem.
I might mention one thing that has helped me. My pain management doctor has recently put me on Ultram, 50 mg tabs. I take two every time I take my methadone. It has really seemed to help. Ultram is non-narcotic but it is a strong pain medication none the less. Ask your doctor about the possibility of you taking that in conjunction with your methadone. You might find the combination helpful.
