What are the disadvantages of using methadone as treatment for opioid addiction?

There are a lot of other medications available for the treatment of opioid addiction. I was just wondering what makes other people choose those over methadone.

Methadone can only be administered in methadone clinics and thus the patients will have to make do with taking some time daily to get their dosage. Aside from this, methadone can also get the patient addicted to it. Addiction to methadone, though, is not as dangerous as getting addicted to other opiates. However, at some point, the patient will have to go through withdrawal from methadone. Withdrawal from methadone must never be done without the supervision of a physician.

Does anyone use methadone as treatment from opioid?

i broke my r.leg in three places and crushed that ankle too, since ive been on percocet and fentnyl and am currently looking into this form of treatment anybody use?

It's a terrible drug. If you have other options, I would use them. Methadone would be my last drug of choice. Think twice or three times before starting this drug. It's very hard to get off of once you have started taking it.

Will my insurance report a medical issue to my job while under treatment?

Opioid addiction and treatment?

I have been taking between 20 and 25 Lortab plus about 10 Soma's a day for about four years. I am bi-polar with an established two year relationship with my psychiatrist. She knows about everything but my addiction. I have an appointment with her on Tuesday, and I am going to tell her everything and request treatment. I feel like I have been betraying someone who has truly been helping me by withholding information from her. I am afraid of her reaction, and I am afraid to be chemical-free. I just need someone to tell me everything is going to be alright.
Thank you, Inked. I needed to hear this more than you will ever know.
John, I started out with tramadol and worked my way up to 30 per day. It is not a good substitute, but an easy way to escalate into other meds.

You've made the biggest step already, realizing that you need to get help, and I commend you for that. Many people do not understand that taking pain pills or muscle relaxants can cause just as serious an addiction as heroin or cocaine.

A psychiatrist will never be dismayed by a patient making the decision to share new information in a session. I truly believe that this will be a positive step for you & your health while creating a more therapeutic and effective relationship with your psychiatrist.

Coming clean is not easy, but know there will now be more people working to help you in the difficult times ahead.

What is drug substitution treatment?

I heard about drug substitution treatment with regards to prisons and opioid abuse. Does anyone know anything about this? What happens in this kind of treatment? What do they use to substitute?

During drug substitution treatment Opioids are replaced by less addictive drugs.

Opioid abuse occurs when the compulsive use of opioids harms a person’s health or social functioning. It also occurs when a person is addicted to or dependent on opioids. Opioids are a class of drugs made from opium, as well as synthetic or semi-synthetic drugs that resemble these opium-based drugs. Examples include heroin, morphine, :: codeine , hydrocodone, :: oxycodone , and :: fentanyl . These drugs are also often referred to as narcotics.

This condition can be treated.
