how long can a person be miserable after stopping methadone treatments?

i have a freind that took methadone for 6 years and then went off of it 5 mil at a time now they are done and it has been about 14 days when will the mood swings stop?

Heroin withdrawal usually peaks within 3 days and is essentially finished within a week to ten days. Methadone withdrawal, however, may not peak for 7-10 days and may last for several weeks to months. So, if he is 14 days post methadone and moodiness is the only symptom still remaining he is doing great. Much of this is probably due to the fact that he detoxed slowly which is what I try to tell people will give them the greatest chance of success.

How many days must I wait to start suboxone treatments after taking methadone?

I took a sip of methadone to stop my withdrawl symptoms, will that hinder my treatment?

im not sure how many days but to start suboxone you have to be in mild to moderate withdrawl.
otherwise youll get sick sick sick believe me ...violently ill isnt the word for it, its bad.
if your meth starts wearig off after say 6 hours and your eyes start watering and your nose starts running id wait about 3-5 hours after that just to be sure.
I went into the clinic in moderate withdrawls (cold sweats runny eyes, and nose mild stomach cramps and crazy anxiety) and had no problems and about 15 minutes after i took a suboxone i was feeling ok. they moved pretty quick at the clinic becasue you have to be sick.

good luck and i hope you like the suboxone better i think its easier no going everyday at the crack of dawn to get right.

take care if you have any other questions please feel free to contact me

Good Luck stay strong
xx

No, not if they did not drug test you before hiring you.

Methadone & buprenophine are currently being used as the standard treatments for what addiction? Do you feel i?

Methadone & buprenophine are currently being used as the standard treatments for what addiction? Do you feel it is effective?

HI,

Methadone: is a narcotic pain reliever, similar to morphine.
It reduces withdrawal symptoms in people addicted to heroin or other narcotic drugs.
Taking it improperly will increase your risk for serious side effects and death.

Buprenophine : is an opioid (narcotic ) medication similar to morphine , codeine and heroin. It is used to treat narcotic addiction too.

Please note that you always consult your doctor before taking either.
Hope this helps.

My cousin is a drug addict and is on methadone treatments?

My cousin is a major drug addict and is trying to get off of heroine so they are giving her methadone treatments. My family was just told that my cousins money is running out now to still recieve her methadone injections and that if she doesnt get the money to still take her methadone treatments then she is going to die. I know nothing about drugs or understand any of it so if my cousin can not get the money to pay for her injections will she really die and why will this cause her too die? My mother is the one who told me this and dont know alot of information on all of this or why they say she could die from this so if someone knows any information on any of this please let me know. Im really worried about my cousin now so could this really be true? Could she really die?

Opiod withdrawal is non-lethal. So she cannot die directly from not receiving methadone, that's not true.
Perhaps there is more to the story, like the speculation that if she doesn't stay on methadone she'll go back to using and end up killing herself.

Edit: I checked the site referenced, scrolled through the in memorium section and was unable to find any deaths directly related to withdrawal. Mental illness/living around violent elements are separate issues.
Withdrawal seizures do not typically happen with opiod abuse - opiods affect the enkephalin and endorphin systems. Withdrawal seizures are associated, rather, with alcohol withdrawal, which can be lethal.

I did searches for opiod/opiate withdrawal and death/lethality on scholar.google.com, which searches medical journals among other things.

From the journal "Addiction"
http://www.blackwell-synergy.com/doi/abs /10.1111/j.1360-0443.1994.tb03745.x

You'll need access (usually through a university) to view the full text.

"Opiate withdrawal has been described as akin to a moderate to severe flu-like illness. Opiate withdrawal is appropriately described as subjectively severe but objectively mild."
"... The risk of death from unassisted opiate withdrawal is negligible..."
keeping in mind that the risk of dying from the flu is also negligible/not at all likely.

Also, keeping in mind that if your cousin is/was on managed doses of methadone, the withdrawal will not be as severe as coming down from an abused opiate. It is accepted in the addictions community that opiate withdrawal itself is not lethal, and also that alcohol withdrawal can be far more dangerous. Withdrawing from opiods has very little effect on the systems that would make you seizure, that would happen from using/ODing.

However, I'm sure withdrawal is a horrific experience and certainly would have an effect on mental health/the urge to use/being self-destructive. You don't, and I'd go as far as saying you can't die from withdrawing from methadone.

Another risk that is negligible: crossing the street.
Anyway, hope that's reassuring.

  • Methadone Detox | How do you feel about methadone clinics?

It’s interesting how our society rails against “drugs,” but it’s really only specific drugs. In methadone maintenance treatment, an opiate addict is given larger and larger amounts of methadone until they build up such a tolerance that they will not even get high if they were to take another, unapproved opiate. Combined with this, methadone withdrawal is reported to be worse and more painful to endure than heroin withdrawal, which is what the methadone was trying to help you avoid in the first place!

It seems like our society does not have a problem with drugs, or with drug addiction, it has a problem with getting high, Weird….

First of all the previous posters have no clue about methadone which is usually the case. The less people seem to know about these clinics the more they want to give their “expert” opinion. LOL The reason people do not get high from other opiates when they take methadone has nothing to do with tolerance. It is because the methadone acts on the same receptors as other opiates and blocks them that way the drug can’t get in and make you high. You can learn about addiction and how dopamine receptors are related to addiction at the following link… When you are stable you are not high! Also, clinics do not give higher and higher doses of methadone. It is given until you are stable…meaning your vitals return to normal, you no longer have signs of withdrawal, you no longer have cravings. This is different for every patient. The theory that Methadone is trading on drug for another is a myth. Addiction and dependence are different. People in MMT are trading addiction for dependence. Many medications cause dependence which means you cannot come off them all at once. These include many anti depressants, corticosteroids, and even blood pressure meds. If you accept the American Medical Association in that Addiction is a disease then you must agree that it should be treated as any other chronic illness would. Just as one person can control their diabetes with diet and no meds while other must have insulin for a short while till they lose weight and yet others are on meds for life so is the treatment of addiction. Some can treat it without meds and other can’t. Lastly, to address the comment that methadone withdrawal is worse than heroin this is also not true. Methadone withdrawal last longer but is much less severe than Heroin. It seems worse because it takes longer,
