Methadone is just as dangerous, just as addictive and is MUCH harder to get off of (withdrawal is much worse). I've experienced this first hand. For non IV addicts who remain on methadone for years, why not just let them have their opiate of choice? Is this just politics?
beacue its harm minimalisations swopping an illegal deadly drug with the possibilty of jail, HIV.Hep c for legal use of a slow acting drug that doesnt give u a high.. but there are other options apart from methadone....other narcotics ure prob talking about can be used for getting a buzz from which kinda defeats the purpose.. need to take a long acting flat tough/peak curve type drug
"a different kind of high" fentanyl and methadone withdrawal starting day 8...opiates withdrawal help heroin oxycontin opana vicodin ...
I have had a script of vicadin for some time now but ive been trying to quit. My friend has been giving me a few methadone to help me quit and i havent had any vics for over 2 weeks, but now i have a drug test coming and im worried about the few methadone ive taken. will they show up as just opiates (the same as vicadin) or will it show up as something else?
Methadone shows up as Methadone. Vicodin as Hydrocodone, and Percocets as Oxycodone. Even if a test is generic for just opiates (most are not these days) then methadone is still seperated.
I have read that many addicts are prescribed Methadone to stop a addiction to opiates such as Oxycontin or Hydrocodone. In turn I have read that Methadone is highly addictive. From my understanding Methadone blocks any euphoric feelings that the opiates can create. So what is a addict feeling from Methadone that gets them addicted to the drug? Could someone try to explain this to me in lay mans terms?
People use methadone because it blocks the opioid receptacles in the brain, so people won't feel the euphoric effects of heroin or pain killers. It also has a half life of 24 hours (it lasts a longer amount of time, before you go into withdrawals) It keeps the withdrawals away, unlike a pain killer that only lasts a couple of hours. Also, people on methadone aren't addicted to it, they are dependent on it to have a healthy, drug-free and crime-free life.
OK, Ive been an IV drug user for about 4 years now just recently I'm trying to get clean. For the past 4-5 days I've been maintaining on subs i acquired(they're all gone).Tomorrow is my first appt with at methadone clinic. Will the clinic give me crap or not take me if opiates aren't in my system at the current time.
I believe you sent me a comment on my webpage "Finding Normal" and I replied but if you have not read it let me reiterate here. It has been my experience as well as it is reccomended in the Federal Guidelines that one be positive for opiates on admission. The reason for this is because Methadone can be very dangerous to someone who is not "opiate tolerant". Opiates will show in your system as little as 2-3 days from the time they were used. Therefore, someone who is opiate tolerant and tested negative would be in significant withdrawal and this would be easily identifiable in the persons vital signs, etc. (there is a scale they use called the COWS scale). You can't fake your vital signs...LOL So if you go in and are negative for opiates they are going to expect to see certain things. For the most part clinics want to prevent people from coming in off the street and making up a story to get methadone to either get high on or sell which could result in death. Make sense? As a heroin user I really feel methadone will be a life saver for you as long as you stick with the program and give it time to work. My clinic does give you 2 weeks of free U/A's because they said they realize it takes some time to work and realize you may use during that time to help prevent withdrawal but not all clinics do that. Anyways, let me know what happens.
If someone takes a drug urine test used to detect opiates if you have taken methadone would that show up? What kind of drugs would the opiates urine test detect?
Methadone shows as Methadone on a urine test.
Vicodin, Lorcets, Lortab. etc. all show as hydrocodone.
Percocet, Oxycontin, Roxidodone, etc. shows as Oxycodone
Morphine tablets, Opana, Numorphan, etc. shows as oxymorphone.
These are all in th"Opiates" category as far as testing goes.

Methadone treatment guideline in opiate addiction-is longer better ...
M ethadone treatment for opiate addiction
The longer patients are retained in methadone treatment, the less illicit opioids they use. Studies show that at six months or more of treatment, heroin use in patients drops from ninety-seven percent to twenty-three percent. When patients stay on long term methadone maintenance for more than four and a half years, the number dropped to eight percent. Of the patients that left methadone maintenance treatment, eighty-two percent injected heroin within 1 year. Therefore, we know that longer treatment is better than shorter treatment.
More on methadone pills 60 mg More on side effects methadone Methadone maintenance discussionLonger methadone treatment for opiate addiction works better than short term treatment using methadone. But stigma surrounds the practice of methadone maintenance treatment. What do you think is the source of the misunderstanding of opiate addiction treatment using methadone? Why are people such critics of the practice of methadone treatment? Why do people urge opiate addicts to start getting off methadone? We invite your comments, feedback and even disagreement here. First, I would like to say “thank you” for being a CARING doctor who educates her herself on this real life issue. I am a 45 year old female, wife, mother…who is desperately seeking help. 10 years ago I had an acident/injury which caused me great pain and was put on hydrocodone. I wasn’t warned about the danger or possibilty of addiction with this type med so I used it as often as needed..time goes on..I become addicted. After several years of misery, doctor shopping, buying off the streets…my needed amount became very dangerous. I couldnt find enough, so to avoid withdrawel and the still paining body I tried heroin out of desperation, morphine, anything that would relieve me. Finally, a doctor (a regular MD) put me on methedone as he suspected I was addicted, and it worked well for me for several years, I even went down on my dosage over the years.I maintained the last 4 years on just 30mg a day and it relieves my pain and I feel “normal”. NOW, we have moved out of state and I CANNOT find any doctor to prescribe the methadone! I dont know where to turn, I can see the writing on the wall, my life is going to go back to what hell it used to be if I cant get help soon! I have found methadone clinics info but I cant drive downtown EVERYDAY to get dosed! I am a wife, a mother, I have obligations, rather than spend half a day in some clinic. WHERE and HOW can a person locate a docor who will prescribe low dose of this medication, monitor your case, and truly care about your well being? People treat people like me as if I were just some scum of the earth who doesnt deserve help. How do I find a docor like you? Who is educated and NOT AFRAID to treat patients like myself? I am in the Dallas area, PLEASE let me know what I can do to find real help. Thank you for caring and dedicating your time on these issues. God Bless!
