I don't really understand how things such as heroin detox work. I just got curious because I got wind of the news that an acquaintance of mine is considering undergoing this.

Detoxification is a part of an effective addiction treatment or rehabilitation program. Heroin detoxification is comprised of three stages. The first stage is referred to as the medical stage. This is the stage wherein the body is being cleared of traces of narcotics. Then, the person will udnergo physical detoxification. This is when nutritionists and diet specialist will design a diet specifically for the patient in order for him to gain back his body's healthy state. The last stage is emotional detoxification, a phase in which a sense of independence from the drug is inculcated upon the individual.

It might seem stupid but I am looking for a career in this field.
I don't know if I have to take psychology, nursing or other.
I would like to get involved in substance abuse treatments, detoxification, Methadone Detoxification.

This doesn't seem stupid at all given humans will always have substance problems.....you will always have a job, and all the better if you have a passion for this type of work.

A four-year nursing degree is very versatile and will give you more work options. I would choose nursing, unless you exclusively want to be a clinical psychologist in which case you need a PhD in psychology or masters in social work.

I m suffering with male infertility (azoospermia ) as my diagnosis report are HB 14.7; FSH 6.0 mIU; LH 6.0 mIU; TESTOSTERONE 8.74 nano mol/L; USG SCROTUM - Nomal Study; URINE = NAD; No SD, No Varicocele ; FNAC B/L Testes : Spermatogenic Hypoplasia

However I was looking for alternative treatment in regards to that I contacted to Amrutha Ayurvedic Heritage Centre in Bangalore over phone. They suggested for a series of therapy name detoxification and rejuvenation anf for getting that I need to go there.

Is any one know the treatment is beneficial for me.. or what i should do for my treatment... pls suggest me..

Detoxification therapy is baloney, and I can't imagine how it is supposed to help with infertility.

Addiction treatment is a serious business. While you may get some useful answers from helpful people in a place like this, you need to check with medically qualified and experienced people.

You may find some help at Wikipedia - it may help point you to other places.

Laws are different in different parts of the world too.

Contact your local governmental health dept - or a local hospital.

Personal support is usually considered a good thing, if those people are not involved in the drug scene themselves - those who have 'dried out' often are helpful as they have been thru it themselves. There are many 'help organizations' of varying quality around - some even take the line of using 'Religion', Some ex-addicts as support.

Some treatments use just abstinence, while some methods use 'replacement drugs', some use a combination of approaches.

All methods do have a percentage failure rate - some people go thru the process more than once before they finally can stop falling back.

what do i mean here is the most effective treatment...is it detoxification or motivational therapy etc..
i dont drink nor my friends. i dont know much about this thing. actually i'm doing investigative study about alcoholism. specifically about treatments....so what about cognitive behaviour therapy?

That is impossible to determine due to the very personal nature of the situation. Most advise a combination of techniques. A support group of some type is a must. Doctor's can prescribe a medicine that makes the body sick around alcohol. That is not advised if the addiction is too severe. If a person suffers from severe withdrawal or some type of toxic shock, cold turkey is a very bad idea. In those cases a doctor must monitor and advise the person seeking treatment. In less severe cases, cold turkey is better with a support group. In any case, it is a must to have outside support. The exception might be if you are ignorant regarding the production of alcohol and are stranded on a desert island. You have to be ignorant or you'll just make it on the island.
