I am doing a paper for my Health class about alcoholism treatment programs. I want to find detailed information about it. I have been searching on the Internet but everything I find are either too short or it lacks information. I just don't trust the information in them too. My teacher required to have just one website as a source. Can you recommend a good website?

My father has just been to an alcoholism treatment. Since then, he's been doing great, posing as a real great father to all of us. I am actually silently hoping that he'll stay sober for as long as he lives, but I wonder if that is possible. I am not being pessimistic here; it's just that I heard stories of relapse. Now, I'm afraid for my father. Can he actually be sober for a lifetime after receiving a treatment?

It will take you awhile to trust your dad again. And, that is normal. People can stay sober. We just have to go to meetings, get a sponsor and work with other alcoholics. At least that is how it worked for me.

Are you attending Alanon or Alateen meetings. I really think it would be good for you and your dad if you at least tried. A lot of family members think they shouldn't have to go to meetings because they aren't the one with the problem.

But, as family members of alcoholic there is often more "sickness" because you have had no way outlet to deal with your pain.

Give your dad the space he needs to work his program and do whatever you can to support him.

Relapse happens but is not necessary to recovery. Good luck to you all and be blessed.

Where can I find information about alcoholism treatment programs, doctors, professional people who will help? We live in LA, CA. My brother is alcoholic- he had family, kid and because of the alcoholism he lost everything what he had. I need to find a doctor (good one)who will help to him to became a normal person (this is a first time when he asked for help). I have been relying on alcohol lately, and I want to change that. I want to treat this alcoholism. I was just wondering if going through treatment would mean never having to drink anything alcoholic ever again in my life.

The goal of alcoholism treatments is to help the person go into abstinence. It's advisable that you don't consume any alcoholic drinks in a long span of time. This doesn't mean that you can't drink alcohol ever again, just that when you do so, you'll be sure to do it in moderation. Excessive drinking will have you addicted again in no time, and you don't want that. If you really want to be sober, work on it. It's always a wonderful feeling when you're experiencing bliss without alcohol messing with your brain.
