Looking for an alcoholic treatment center that has security?

This individual has schizophrenia but is also an alcoholic. We are looking for a facility in the United States that has security and the person would not be able to walk away. Is there an alcoholic treatment center in the United States that would be able to help this individual and family? Thank you for your kind answers and references.

Do alcoholic treatment centers actually work?

Do you know anyone or know if these actually make someone stop drinking. Is there a good chance of them quitting drinking from going here and it is a good idea to begin with? I read some about alcohol withdrawal too and it doesn't look good.

Treatment centers such as http://www.recoveryconnection.org/ do work to a certain degree. They are trained professionals who know how to get people away from their addiction. Their patients usually leave clean. The problems is a year later people may forget about their progress and with enough temptation around the person may fall back in that hole. I have faith in treatment centers but if the person does not have enough self control problems may emerge thats why its also your job to keep alcohol away or limit what the person drinks.

how can i legally force my alcoholic father into a treatment center?

My father is a raging alcoholic but is nowhere near admitting it. I believe he will die before the year is over because he wont get help. Please someone tell me how I can have him committed for treatment without his consent.

It would be very difficult, but depending on the circumstances may be possible. First, these things are governed by state law, so contact your local NAMI (National Alliance for the Mentally Ill) to get started--they can either answer your questions or get you to someone who can.

With that proviso, here are a few alternatives:

1) if you can establish that he is a danger to himself or others, he can be committed involuntarily. Is he currently being treated in any way? If yes, see if his psychiatrist will talk to you about your concerns. If not, your best option would be to call the police when he is raging drunk and acting in way where he is in fact a danger to himself/others.

2) you could petition to find him incapacitated, unable to make decisions for himself. Note that the answer: "You would have to have a psychiatrist determine that your father is unable to make decisions for himself" is totally misleading. This is a judicial process, in which a psychiatrist will probably be consulted, but the shrink doesn't make the decision. This is particularly hard to do without showing that his thinking is impaired in a way where he can't make the most basic of decisions.

There is a strong presumption--for good reason--that people are *not* incapacitated: if people could be institutionalized against their will on a lower threshold showing, we'd be living in a de facto police state. So it's an uphill battle. Additionally, the sad fact of addiction is that people generally don't get better unless they're willing to first admit they have a problem. Hospitalization might help him realize the gravity of the situation, but it isn't a guaranteed fix; indeed, involuntary hospitalization involves the court system in most states, and serious stigma.

So your best bet is to contact NAMI (http://www.nami.org/) or other mental health advocacy groups that know something about your state law and ask what they would advise. Good luck, and sorry for your situation.

My brother in Ardmore, Pennsylvania, is an alcoholic. How do I find addiction treatment centers for him?

I have just recently talked to my brother, who happens to be in Pennsylvania. I have learned that he is now an alcoholic, and he started drinking when his wife left him. I didn't even know that they're separated already, and have been for months now. I was really surprised to hear about this. It has been really hard for my brother. He's asking for my help on how he can get himself treated for his addiction, and I want to find an addiction treatment center for him. How will I get to do this?

It's pretty easy to find alcohol rehabs. The links below can help you in your search. You can also ask your brother to go to a doctor to have himself checked up. That way, the doctor can give him recommendations as to which alcohol rehabs he can get himself treated. I really hope your brother gets well soon. Things must be really tough for him. Just continue on being there for him. Your support and encouragement would really matter much.

Emergency treatment of alcoholic poisoning question for paramedics?

If someone has a cardiac arrest resulting from alcoholic poisoning could you still successfully resuscitate that person and what will the EKG show at that moment?

Being dead simply isn't good for your health. Under any circumstances, resuscitation in the field is unlikely, but here you're probably talking about either a respiratory arrest and the subsequent respiratory acidosis and hypoxemia, a straightforward alcoholic (metabolic) acidosis, or both. In theory, the rhythm is fairly likely to be ventricular fibrillation, and there's some reasonable chance for a successful outcome if the arrest doesn't occur before arrival of EMS on scene.

    Drug Addiction? Need advice PLEASE!!!?

“I used to do a little but a little wouldn't do, so the little got more and more. I just keep trying to get a little better, a little better than before…Now, I get up whenever, I used to get up on time”. I've been taking XANAX for over 2 years now. I started abusing drugs because I felt they were my only way to escape my own personal hell, but I started taking 1mg then went to 2, 4,10, 20, etc. The most I've ever done was about 80mg. PLEASE I DON'T WANT TO continue THIS ANYMORE, I would destroy my xanax, but I know withdrawal is bad. I'm prescribed 1mg Xanax 4x a day and I got a 90 day supply of it about 2 weeks ago. Now I only have about 150mg left. I want to just start taking 1 at night to help me sleep because of the withdrawal, but I need to eliminate all temptations in order for this to work. If you read this all the way through, I appreciate it.
